Cemetery Rules and Regulations

The Grove Cemetery Association of Naugatuck welcomes visitors at any of the four cemeteries under the associations care. Please follow the rules and regulations for everyone's safety.

Use the cemetery for walks, reading and peaceful time of reflection and always remember the cemetery is sacredly devoted to the deceased and your actions should be directed as such.

  • Plot owners may not fertilize, reseed or replace topsoil

  • Flower beds or boxes are permitted ONLY in front of a monument

    • Bed/box cannot extend more than 8 inches beyond the face of the monument and no more than 2 inches from either side

    • Only mulch and topsoil are allowed within flower bed

    • Rocks, rubber mulch, gravel, etc is not permitted

  • Fences or walls of any kind at gravesites are not allowed

  • Approved plantings or faux flowers must be well maintained, or they will be cut back and/or removed

  • Cut flower containers MUST be metal and/or plastic and free standing

  • Small statues and plaques are limited to 1 per lot and must be no larger than 12 inches tall

  • No shrubs, evergreens or trees may be planted on any plot by owner without permission of the Superintendent

  • Lights of any kind are not permitted and will be removed

  • NO glass or ceramics of any kind

  • Bric-a-Brac of any description including but not limited to shepherd hooks, toys, soft items (i.e. stuffed animals) ornaments, wind chimes, bird feeders, balloons, paper products, ribbons and pinwheels are not allowed

  • Cemetery follows a strict seasonal cleanup schedule:

  • Winter Decoration removal: February 1

  • Spring Decoration removal: May 15

  • Summer and Fall Decoration removal: December 1

  • No alcohol or illegal drugs

  • Firearms may be used exclusively at military funerals by authorized military personnel only

    • Shell casings must be picked up by firearm operators

  • 10 M.P.H. speed limit is strictly enforced

  • Cars only permitted on roadways

  • Do NOT drive on grass

  • Pets are welcome

    • Pets MUST be leashed and remain on roadways

    • Pet owners required to pick up after pets

RULES & REGULATIONS FOR NATURAL BURIAL SECTION

  • Only biodegradable decor is permitted in the Natural Burial Section

  • No plantings allowed

    • Native seed packets available upon request

The cemetery reserves the right to remove anything that impedes operation or anything deemed in 

neglect or disrepair.
